Dream Ville Kunsan

Did you or your spouse just receive an assignment to Kunsan Air Base in South Korea? Separating the family for an unaccompanied assignment can be tough. Luckily, Dream Ville near Kunsan Air Base is a perfect solution to keep the family together and experience an amazing new country!

What is Dream Ville?

Dream Ville is an apartment complex and hotel where many non-command sponsored military spouses or families live while assigned at Kunsan Air Base in Gunsan, South Korea.

There are four buildings that make up Dream Ville labeled A-D. Buildings A and B are typically where most military families live. Building A is pet-friendly, and building B is where most families with children live.

Right next to building A near the entrance gate is the main office. This is where Rosa, the main point of contact at Dream Ville, works. Rosa is a local Korean who speaks wonderful English and is great for any translation needs during your stay.

Dream Ville for Military Spouses

Dream Ville is located right outside of the main gate of Kunsan Air Base. It takes less than one minute to drive there and less than five minutes to walk.

Since a lot of families moving to Dream Ville don’t have cars or only have one car per family, many people purchase bikes and ride to Kunsan Air Base.

Although walking to Kunsan’s main gate is very quick and convenient, the downside is getting on base. The pedestrian line to get on base can get ridiculously long and take a good amount of time to get through. Using a bike allows you to go through the car lane, which is much quicker.

If you do choose to walk on base, note that it will take about 20-30 minutes to walk from the main gate to the BX/Commissary/Post Office/etc.

There is also a local bus stop right outside of Dream Ville. Rosa can provide you with a bus schedule and more specific details on when and where the bus goes.

How much does it cost to live in Dream Ville?

The cost of Dream Ville apartments varies on whether you get a one or two-bedroom apartment. In 2019/2020, the cost for a one-bedroom was 1,600,000 KRW (about $1,450 USD) per month, and the cost for a two-bedroom apartment was 1,700,000 KRW (about $1,550 USD) per month.

Note that this is a little pricey for the area, but with being so close to the base and having an English-speaking landlord, this is where most people opt to live.

Each month, you will have to remember to go into the office to pay your rent via credit card. I would always set a reminder on my phone since I’m so used to auto-payments like in the states. Though, if you are a day or so late, Rosa is usually pretty lenient about it.

Helpful/additional things to note:

During the warmer months, Dream Ville has a pool between buildings B and C for the kids to play in, as well as an enclosed trampoline. There is also a small playground near building D.

Living in Dream Ville is its own little off-base community with family events, social gatherings, friends for kids, and more.

Dream Ville has a fire pit/gathering space for social events.

Tenants are expected to take out their trash and recyclables. The dumpster is located near building D. Please do your best to sort your trash. Otherwise, Dream Ville staff has to sort through it themselves.

If you prefer to keep your apartment clean and tidy yourself without the cleaning/housekeeping service, you can opt out. Simply go to the front office and ask Rosa that they skip your room for cleaning. I also put a sign on my door asking that they do not clean.

Note that most of the walls in Dream Ville apartments have wallpaper. Unfortunately, if using Command strips, things don’t stick too well (especially during the humid summers) and many of the walls are concrete. If bringing things to decorate the space, plan on décor that does not need to hang from the wall.

Dream Ville Decor

The whole apartment is hard floor. We purchased an area rug for the living room and it made it so much cozier in there!

Most of the couches that come in the apartments are plastic. Plan to bring a couch cover or some blankets to make it a little more comfy.

The bathtubs in the apartments have a flat surface at the back where water tends to catch and run off onto the floor. BE CAREFUL! The bathroom floor can get very slippery when wet. We purchased a squeegee to try to guide the water to the drain after each shower.

When visiting an apartment, use Korean etiquette and be sure to remove your shoes prior to entering.

Hi there!

Born & raised in Michigan, New Yorker at heart. Adventure took ahold of my fate and brought me to my [now] husband, who leads me around the world via U.S. Air Force. Being a military spouse has raised its challenges, but has taken me on some of the most incredible adventures in places I never thought I would step foot. We have lived in Italy, South Korea, and now currently stationed in Las Vegas.
