SURF’S UP! If you’re a military spouse, expat, or just visiting South Korea, be sure to schedule a day in your itinerary to head to Surfyy Beach in Yangyang, South Korea. This beach has something for everyone – sand, surf, drinks, food, spots to relax, after-parties, and more!

Surfyy Beach is on the northeast coast of South Korea in the city of Yangyang. The easiest way to get to this fun-filled beach is via car, but it is also possible by bus.

What is there to do at Surfyy Beach?
Surfyy Beach is a perfect spot for surfers but not limited to surfers. Many people enjoy visiting this hipster hangout for a place to relax, to grab some food and drinks at the trendy beach bar, and to take lots of pictures on this very Instagrammable sandscape.
[No] Swimming
Unfortunately, there is no swimming allowed on Surfyy Beach, but there is a neighboring beach separated by a picket fence that allows guests to take a dip in the ocean.
Sunbathing + Relaxing
If you would like to relax on the beach, note that you must purchase a beach pass. This costs around 10,000 won (or $10) for the day per person. Check their website for updated information on pricing. The beach pass includes one free drink and the ability to freely use the amenities on the beach (beanbags, hammocks, etc.).
If you would like to just bring your own towel or beach mat to lay on the beach, you can do so at the neighboring beach beyond the Surfyy Beach boundaries.

Surfing
If you have some experience surfing, you can rent a surfboard and wetsuit on Surfyy Beach for 3 hours. If you are surfing on your own, make sure that you abide by the rules. You can find general surfing rules at the bottom of this post.
If you would like surf lessons, you can also do that here. They have foreign instructors who are able to teach surf lessons in English. To book this, you can head to the Surfyy Beach website, or message them on their Facebook or Instagram page.
Cost of surfing lessons:
50,000 won (~ $50) during the months of April, May, and October (off-season)
60,000 won (~ $60) during the months of June, July, August, and September (peak season)
Paddle boarding
Surfing not your thing? You can also take paddle boarding lessons at Surfyy Beach with a 3-hour paddle board rental!
Cost of paddle boarding:
30,000 won (~ $30) during the months of April, May, and October (off-season)
40,000 won (~ $40) during the months of June, July, August, and September (peak season)

The Sunset Bar
This Instagrammable beach bar is a perfect spot to grab a drink and a bite to eat while you watch the surf or relax after a day of riding the waves. They offer cocktails, champagne, and beer, as well as pizza, burgers, chicken, and more!
After party
Join in on Surfyy Beach’s after-party starting May through October during the hours of 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM. The party is for ages 19 and up, and does not require reservations or an admission fee. Check their Instagram page regularly for updated details and changes.
When is the best time to visit Surfyy Beach?
Between the months of June and September is the best time to visit Surfyy Beach. Although this is the peak season for visitors, know that it is the peak season for a reason. Visiting during the summer months provides the best chance for warm, sunny weather, optimal for enjoying the beach amenities and surf.
Military Spouse tip:
If you are planning to visit Surfyy Beach with a group (the squadron, for a Pink Flag, etc.), contact Surfyy Beach to inquire about reservations for a table at Sunset Bar or for surf lessons.
