It’s already been almost four months since we moved to Las Vegas. I am so thankful that time is going faster than anticipated out here – because “time flies by when you’re having fun” is not the motto I would use for this situation. Time does fly by, though, when you have shipment after shipment of two people’s belongings being dropped in the middle of your house and you’re then tasked to strategically figure out where to put it all…
Move Update
Do I sound bitter? Haha, I’m not. I actually really enjoy the “nesting” part of the moves. But maybe more-so the smaller moves into an apartment, where it only takes a few weeks to get everything settled. Not having all of this “stuff” for a few years has really made me realize how much I really am happy living without.
Thankfully, with our bigger house, we have a good amount of storage room to tuck things away. We really only have one room left in the house that needs some attention before I can say we’re officially settled. Luckily, we have a deadline to get that done.
Family Plans
In a few weeks, my parents and in-laws will be coming out to Las Vegas for a visit! The goal is to have everything done by the time they arrive, along with some fun, festive decorations put up for the holidays. Since we will also be hosting Thanksgiving, we are working on figuring out a menu for the feast and the hubby is going to “test out” smoking a turkey on his new Kamado Joe grill this weekend (I better get used to eating turkey for the next few weeks…).
Travel
Another reason time has [fortunately] been flying by so fast since we got here is thanks to a bit of travel. Back in September, we took a road trip out to New Mexico to see the hubby’s family for Labor Day weekend. Less than a week later, I flew out to Michigan for a few weeks to visit my parents and pack up my belongings to move out to Las Vegas. While I was in Michigan, we headed up north for a little vacation in some of my favorite Northern Michigan towns. A week after arriving back in Las Vegas, we headed to San Diego for a squadron trip over Columbus Day weekend. Less than two weeks after that trip, we spontaneously headed to Arizona to visit some friends in Phoenix and hike in Sedona for a few days. Weekends in between these adventures, we’ve headed up to Mount Charleston (only 45 minutes away) a few times to go hiking.
Birthday Month!
Somehow, all of that brought us to November – my birthday month! I’ll be 29 on the 29th, making it my golden birthday this year! Typically, I’m really excited about my birthdays, but between this being my last year in my 20’s (crying), being stuck in Las Vegas (my absolute least favorite city in the world currently), and COVID still going on, I’m not a happy birthday girl.
Travels of birthdays past
Since I’ve met the hubby, we’ve always made it tradition to go somewhere fun over our birthdays. We spent his 30th birthday on the Amalfi Coast in Italy, and my 27th birthday in Zurich, Switzerland for the Christmas markets (so incredible!). We spent his 31st birthday in New York right after our wedding reception, and my 28thbirthday in Vietnam on a Ha Long Bay cruise. We spent his 32nd birthday camping and surfing for the first time in South Korea, and we’re spending my 29th birthday… in Las Vegas. Perfect… To sum it up, a majority of 2020 has just been one big letdown.
Woof

In other news, we added a little fluff addition to our family at the end of August! Paco is a mini Sammypoo (part Samoyed, part Poodle) that we found from a breeder in Koreatown here in Las Vegas. Although Samoyeds are larger breeds, Paco will only get to be about 15lbs or so (we hope). He’s currently the perfect travel-size pup for us, where he could manage to fit under the seat on a flight and fits great in the back seat of our car for road trips. We named him Paco after our neighbor’s dog that we fell in love with in Italy. He’s adorable, but quite a handful. Did I mention he started chewing up our brand-new West Elm couch and rug?!… if you find a missing Sammypoo wandering the streets of Las Vegas, it probably wasn’t an accident (please wait a few days before calling about our found pup).
Job Search
On top of everything else going on here, I’ve been actively job-searching. Unfortunately, my initial plans of finding a cool events job on the strip are kaput with COVID still going on. Though, I’ve interviewed with a few companies in the last few weeks.
One job I interviewed with is for a freelance day-of wedding coordinator for a nearby hotel (though, weddings are currently not being held yet). Another position was for a remote event producer for a start-up company (they unprofessionally ghosted me on my second interview after they asked me to present them with a few pitches for a client they had…). And I also interviewed with our local Paper Source store as a seasonal sales associate. They actually offered me a management position out of the interview, but it required working too many weekends (when weekends are the only time I get to see the hubby). I decided on the part-time seasonal sales associate position with them to at least get me out of the house and make a little cash. I just had my first day yesterday – so far, so good!
Brrr
Within the last week, we went from highs in the 80s to highs in the 50s! We even saw that it snowed for the first time this season up in the mountains! As much as I complain about cold weather, I honestly love it and have been missing it a ton since moving out to the middle of the desert. It’s been really nice to finally break into my fall clothes and boots. And now, it finally is starting to feel like autumn around here (if you cover up all the palm trees…).
It’s been a while since the last update, but I think that covered about everything going on in our lives lately. Stay tuned on the blog for posts of my recent travels, as well as some catch-up posts from South Korea!
Until next time, stay safe, stay healthy, enjoy the holidays (if we don’t chat before), and keep Catching the Drift (even if from the comfort of your own home).
Ta ta for now, drifters!
XO,
Kylie
